SEPTEMBER 2022

Firstly, I hope everyone is enjoying the summer! Too hot for some no doubt, but as we Brits love moaning it will soon be too cold for others .. or too wet, or too windy!

This is another chance for a reminder about our next open Group open meeting on Friday  9th September (AGM) entitled “The Fair Arm Of The Law”. This will be an illustrated and humorous talk by former Police Officer Simon Dell. The meeting starts at 7.30pm. The talk is free to all Group Members, and just £3.00 to non-members. It promises to be an arresting evening!

This will also give all existing members the chance to renew their memberships with us. After much discussion at out last Committee meeting we have had to make the decision to increase our membership fee from £5 to £10 to cover the ever increasing costs of Village hall hire, guest speaker charges and even the increase in prices for tea/coffee, milk and biscuits. However, I am sure you will agree that even then there are very few, if any, places where you can go out, be entertained three times a year, have a hot drink and a biscuit or two with friends for just £10, so I sincerely hope all our members will rejoin, and perhaps some readers who are not with us will consider joining.
As a quick thought – the last time our membership fee was increased was in July 2014 when it was raised from £4 to £5 – since then we have been relatively healthy finance wise and able to absorb price rises with DVD sales. However, with the DVD now having run its course and membership numbers falling, there is really no alternative than to increase our fee if we want to survive.

Don’t forget to buy your tickets for the Christmas Event on Friday 2^nd December. At just £5 it promises to be a jolly evenings entertainment, tickets  will be available to buy  from 9^th Sept until 25^th Nov.
