Marldon Local History Group Invites You to its 2018 PROGRAMME OF GUEST SPEAKERS & ILLUSTRATED TALKS
FRIDAY 9th MARCH 2018
Dr. Todd Gray, from Exeter University, is one of our most requested Speakers, and his talks are always interesting, informative and well researched. This is a new talk and is titled “Marldon & Elizabethan Insults in Devon” and promises to be amusing as well!
FRIDAY 8th JUNE 2018
“Warhorse” is the latest talk by Dartmoor expert Paul Rendell. This talk, illustrated by many photographs, is the story of the making of the recent successful Steven Spielberg film (based on the book by Michael Murpurgo and the award winning stage play), and filmed at various locations on Dartmoor.
FRIDAY 7th SEPTEMBER 2018 (AGM)
“Policing the Peninsula” is an illustrated talk by Simon Dell, and is a history of policing in the West Country, with some amusing anecdotes. Simon is new to our Group, partly due to his being a much in demand Speaker, and we are looking forward to hearing about his somewhat unusual subject.
FRIDAY 7th DECEMBER 2018
“Captain & Mrs Jones” is a talk based on the book written by Chris Robillard about Captain Sydney Charles Jones who worked for the Special Operations Executive in World War II in France*, based on papers recently released by MI5 after 70 years! His son Anthony lives in Marldon and will also be attending.
* Recently featured on BBC Spotlight news and in various national newspapers
