Firstly, a belated ‘Happy New Year’ to you all!
We had a very good turnout for our last Social Evening of 2023 with a better-than-normal attendance because we opened the event to the General Public!
Maggie Duffy and Bob Thompson split the evening into two halves and were even persuaded to perform an encore which had nearly everybody up on their feet and joining in! Certainly one of the best Christmas Socials the Group has had for a long while.
In total we had 21 members attend and 39 non-members attend.
Membership for 2024 stands at only 30 compared to 55 last year, we will be discussing this at our next Committee meeting.
We have tried to recruit new Members via various channels (social media and notices), all to no avail, and we now seem to be following the same decreasing membership trend as many other Groups within the Village.
So far we have Guest Speakers booked for the next two Social meetings and one to confirm as follows:
Friday 01 March – 19.30hrs (Open Meeting Main Hall)
Paul Hawthorne – “Paignton Picture House, Past, Present & Future”
Friday 07 June – 19.30hrs (Open Meeting Main Hall)
Nick Parnell – “Torbay Harbour”
Friday 06 September – 19.30hrs (AGM Open Meeting Main Hall)

Hello, I was in discussion with a nice lady from Compton outside of Compton Castle and informed her that in the over grown privet hedge opposite the castle entrance is a concrete seat used for the buses that originally turned there. Is it possible to discover the reasons why those 25 have not remained members?
with that information you can determine the future direction of membership
e.g half price entry for members, full price for non members
free entry for members , full price for non members
