Our last Open Meeting, in September, was also our AGM, and therefore the last Open Meeting of the Group’s calendar year, running as it does from AGM to AGM (as opposed to from January to December). The first thing our Committee looks at after the AGM is our Membership numbers, being the most important aspect of our Group, because without our Members, our Group cannot survive. However, this is not a message of doom or pessimism, because, for a Village of our size, our total Membership is not bad. Also, as mentioned in our Report in last month’s Magazine, a number of our regular Members were unable to attend our AGM, but have since renewed.
Hopefully, those who have not renewed their membership will do so before our next Open Meeting, which is on Friday 6th December. Our Speaker will be Angela White, who is a new Speaker for us, and comes highly recommended, with an illustrated and amusing festive talk entitled “Was It Really Christmas” about Christmas preparations “down under”. She is also the first Speaker on our 2019/2020 Programme of Speakers.
Our December Open Meeting is also our Christmas Evening, and this year, as for last year, the Meeting will be open to all, i.e Members and their spouses/guests as usual, and non-Members. There will of course be mince pies and mulled wine (you can also bring your own alcohol!), and a Grand Raffle. Admission will be only £2, payable on the door on the night. Alternatively, if you wish, you can buy tickets in advance. If you would prefer to buy tickets, please contact either our Secretary Derek (529859) or our Chairman Tony (521419). Members will receive our usual flyer in good time, but please look out for our Posters on the Village Notice Boards. Although there will also be a reminder in next month’s Magazine, please make a note of the date now.
