FEBRUARY 2019

marldon village hall

There are not too many appropriate ways of starting our Report this month, so we will just say welcome to our first monthly Report of 2019, and may we (somewhat belatedly) wish all our Members, and indeed all readers of the Parish Magazine, a very Happy and Peaceful New Year.

As the memories of the New Year celebrations are fading fast, so too is the recollection of our last Open Meeting of the Old Year, which was our Christmas Open Meeting and Social Evening on Friday 7th December. Being on the 7th of the month meant of course that it could not be reported in the December/January Magazine. A few changes were made from previous Christmas Social Evenings, inasmuch as we had a Guest Speaker, and the Evening was open to all and admission could be paid at the door. The evening was more successful than the Committee had expected, due mainly we think to the Speaker’s subject, which was the story behind his latest book “”Captain & Mrs. Jones”, with its Marldon connection.

Mention of Guest Speakers prompts me to mention that our programme of Speakers and their subjects for the whole of this New Year has already been arranged by our Secretary Derek – full details were given in the December/January Magazine, and the first is on Friday 8th March. Our Speaker will be Robert Hesketh, who will give us an illustrated talk titled “Smuggling in Devon – the Truth behind the Fiction”. Look out for the posters on the Notice Boards and other usual places in a few weeks time, and of course in next month’s Magazine.

Finally, may we remind you that our Quarterly Open Meetings are open to all – Members and non-members. Admission is free to Members and £2 for non-members (including coffee & biscuits). If you wish to join, or re-join, our subscription is still only £5 per year. Please contact either our Secretary Derek (529859) or our Chairman Tony (521419). Many thanks.

Tony Chidlow .. Chairman
