MAY 2018

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

May is one of those months which fall between our regular quarterly Open Meetings, but at least it gives me plenty of time to tell you about our June Meeting, and the opportunity to give you a “last minute” reminder in my May report as well.

Before that however, I must say that those of us who are most involved in our NEW website (marldonlocalhistorygroup.com) continue to be very pleased about the new material which has been put on the site, and about even more new material which will be on the site very shortly. Our book-list in particular is being greatly added to as quickly as possible. Please keep looking, and if there is anything in particular from Marldon’s recent or not so recent past, or anything to do with Marldon, please let us know. We are also anxious to hear your views, and to see any photographs which you have of the Village and the wider Parish and its events and people, and which you think will be of interest to show to our wider website audience..

However, back to the future, and our next Open Meeting, on FRIDAY 8th JUNE, is entitled “Warhorse”  and is the latest talk by Dartmoor expert Paul Rendell. ‘Dartmoor’ Paul has been our Guest Speaker on previous occasions, and his talks are always interesting and informative. “Warhorse” is the story of the making of the recent successful Steven Spielberg film (based on the book by Michael Murpurgo and the award winning stage play), and filmed on locations on Dartmoor. As always, our Open Meetings are open to Members (free) and non-members (admission only £2), coffee and biscuits included. There will also be a display of little-seen photographs and other items from our Archive, as well as a selection of books to borrow without charge (Members only).

Our June Open Meeting will start at 7.30 pm in the Village Hall, and hopefully the lighter evenings will encourage you to come and see us. Members will be reminded in good time, as usual, and our posters will be on the Village Notice Boards. We look forward to seeing you.
