Marldon Local History Group – July 2024
It is with some sadness that I write this as perhaps the last History Group article for a while.
Following on from our excellent speaker Nick Pannell at our summer social, (all done without the aid of illustrations due to the overhead projector not functioning) the Committee had called a Special General Meeting (SGM) to discuss the future of the Group.
Myself and my wife Julie were standing down as Chair, Secretary and Treasurer so with no volunteers from membership coming forward to take over the roles as required by our constitution, it was agreed to make the Group ‘dormant’ for the time being.
With membership standing at 37, three apologies only were received but still just 18 members attended the meeting, a shame as all had received a written invitation.
It was agreed that the current Committee would remain as that, just a Committee to oversee the archives and the website – all other aspects of the Group would cease forthwith.
Maybe in the future the Group will be revived by a new band of enthusiastic local people – but for now I can only thank everyone who has supported the History Group since its birth back in September 2001.
Derek .. Chair / Treasurer
